The “WHITE PROJECT AA 24\/25”<\/strong> embodies this spirit, developed in collaboration with Berto<\/a>,<\/strong> a historic company and leader in high-quality denim production. This project will involve first-year students of the BA in Fashion Design, giving them the opportunity to develop and create a garment inspired by the focus on denim.<\/p>\n

Students will follow the entire creative process, working on concepts and designs<\/strong> that will express both their own vision and Berto\u2019s values.<\/p>\n

Who is Berto?<\/h2>\n

Berto produces high-quality denim fabrics for major Italian and international fashion brands.<\/strong> Founded in 1887 in Bovolenta (PD), the company is now led by the fourth generation of the Berto family. Production still takes place in the historic facilities and is an integral part of the Italian Textile-Fashion supply chain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Berto is a true “contemporary artisan”:<\/strong> combining technical expertise and craftsmanship with knowledge gained over time, creating innovative, high-quality, and sustainable products.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Project in Collaboration with Berto<\/h2>\n

The “White Project”<\/strong> is a unique academic experience that invites students to explore the creative potential of denim, focusing exclusively on natural shades such as white and ecru.<\/strong> This minimal color palette challenges designers to concentrate on form, texture, volumes, and textile manipulation<\/strong>, encouraging them to create garments where structure and materiality take center stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project,<\/strong> aimed at first-year BA in Fashion Design students, is based on a selection of denim fabrics provided by Berto<\/strong>, made from 100% cotton and sourced from deadstock or recovered fabrics.<\/strong> Students will be involved in every stage of the creative process: from material selection to concept development, leading to the creation of a garment inspired by the Womenswear SS 26 collection.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Project Details<\/h2>\n

The project focuses on using denim as the main material,<\/strong> with a selection provided by Berto that includes 2-3 fabric types, such as lightweight shirt denim, laminated options, and other variations \u2014 all characterized by a natural color palette ranging from white to ecru.<\/p>\n

Sustainability is a core element of the project<\/strong>, emphasizing the use of recovered or defective fabrics, helping students develop awareness of responsible design practices.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students will engage in various operational phases, starting with the choice of denim and ordering the necessary yardage to create a garment inspired by the Womenswear SS 26 collection. Throughout the process, they will develop creative concepts, exploring volumes, textile manipulations, and the combination of different types of denim<\/strong>.
