Frequency: Weekly – Tuesdays from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, from October 7 to December 9, 2025
Duration: 10 lessons – total of 25 hours
Materials: Pair of straight knitting needles size 7 and a light-colored ball of wool suitable for size 7 needles (for the first lesson); white wrapping paper, one or two sheets for creating the pattern (to be brought later); metal or plastic yarn needle with a rounded tip (to be brought later)

Each participant will be guided step by step through hands-on lessons covering: an introduction to yarns and tools (needles and accessories), learning the basic stitches, simple construction and shaping techniques, finishing, and garment assembly.
The course is designed for students, professionals, and enthusiasts from a variety of backgrounds. It is suitable both for absolute beginners looking to explore knitting for the first time and for hobbyists who wish to strengthen their skills by completing a full project.
Skills acquired include: basic knowledge of materials and tools for knitting; execution of essential stitches (knit, purl, increases, decreases); construction and assembly of a basic sweater; and manual finishing techniques.
At the end of the course, participants who attend at least 8 out of 10 sessions will receive a certificate of attendance, which may be eligible for recognition of 2 academic credits (CFA).
Program
- Introduction to the World of Knitting: historical overview, differences between knitting and woven fabrics
- Workshop: Casting On and Knit Stitch: practical exercise in starting a knitting project, execution of the knit stitch
- Introduction to Knitting Materials: overview of yarn types, introduction to knitting needles and accessories
- Workshop: Knit and Purl Stitches: practice in combining basic stitches
- Theoretical Session: Finishing Techniques: concepts and purposes of finishing in knitwear
- Workshop: Edges and Finishes: practical application of finishing techniques, exercises on 1×1 and 2×2 ribbing, seed stitch, and garter stitch
- Theoretical Session: Types of Knitted Garments: overview of garment categories and construction methods
- Workshop: Swatch Development and Fabric Evaluation: creation of a sample swatch, analysis of fabric behavior and gauge
- Theory and Practice: Pattern Drafting and Project Planning: development of a pattern template for a personal sweater, casting on and beginning the project
- Theory and Practice: Shaping Techniques: introduction to increases and decreases, application in shaping the garment
- Workshop: Garment Construction and Shaping: continuing work on individual projects, focus on structure and form
- Theory and Demonstration: Neckline Variations: exploration of different neckline styles and techniques
- Theory and Demonstration: Sleeve Variations: overview and comparison of sleeve constructions
- Theoretical Session: Seaming and Finishing: techniques for assembling garments, guidelines for washing and caring for hand-knitted items
- Final Presentation and Feedback: showcase of completed projects, group discussion and individual feedback
Outcomes
The course aims to provide students with both practical and creative skills in hand knitting, while fostering the development of individual design autonomy and manual proficiency.
