Gianluca Cantaro is a journalist and fashion critic with an established career in Italian and international publications. Born in Caltanissetta in 1971 and raised in Lecco, he began his studies in Law, before deciding to dedicate himself to the world of fashion, a choice that shaped his professional path and led him to the top of fashion publishing.
He started as a freelancer collaborating with fashion and lifestyle magazines, later becoming Deputy Senior Editor of D – la Repubblica delle Donne in 2001. In 2007 he joined Condé Nast and, from 2007 to 2014, held the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief of L’Uomo Vogue, working alongside Franca Sozzani. He later served as Editor-in-Chief of L’Officiel Italia and L’Officiel Hommes Italia until 2019.
From September 2019 to March 2020, he led the relaunch of nowfashion.com, involving art director Mike Meiré for the platform redesign, a pioneer in live streaming fashion shows. During the pandemic, he joined New Guards Group as Communication Director, overseeing corporate and brand communications, before returning to freelance projects and consultancy work. Between 2022 and 2023, he co-founded and directed the independent magazine STXDYOZ and briefly served as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar Italia.
Today he collaborates as a journalist and fashion critic with publications such as Vogue Italia, ICON Italia, Il Foglio, CAP 74024, Muse, Family Style, Modern Weekly, Numéro China, and The Rouge Fashion Book China. He is also a curator and creative consultant for the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, developing editorial content and special projects at the heart of the international fashion system.
