Ferrari Fashion School and Nieuwe Instituut
Milan once again confirms its status as a capital of innovation and fashion with the launch of an experimental pop-up store by Nieuwe Instituut, in collaboration with Ferrari Fashion School. This initiative gave students of the school the chance to participate in an innovative workshop during Milan Design Week 2024.
Throughout this intensive week, the students had the opportunity to work with an unusual yet fascinating material: donated human hair.
The goal?
To transform it into recycled textiles through a creative and sustainable process. The young students applied their skills to incorporate human hair into various fabrics, creating unique patterns and forms that not only explored new aesthetic frontiers but also highlighted the importance of recycling and reuse in an eco-conscious context.
New Store
The pop-up, named New Store, introduced a completely revolutionary mode of interaction: visitors were invited to contribute not only their hair but also their ideas and time, becoming co-creators of a finished product that represents a new value economy. This approach allowed participants to directly experience the positive impact of sustainable practices in the fashion industry.
One of the most innovative aspects of the workshop was the collaboration with South Korean artist Woo Jin Joo, who guided participants in creating a textile made entirely from human hair. This project challenged prejudices and the sense of discomfort often associated with using such material, while also showcasing the aesthetic and practical potential of hair as a sustainable resource.
A sustainable workshop with Ferrari Fashion School and Nieuwe Instituut
In conclusion, the experiment conducted at New Store 2.0 is not only a step forward in the search for new sustainable materials but also represents a paradigm shift in the way we think about how fashion can actively contribute to the sustainability of our planet.
The students of Ferrari Fashion School demonstrated that with creativity and innovation, it is possible to reinvent waste materials into valuable resources, paving the way for a future where fashion is not only beautiful to look at but also good for our world.
