Collab with Berto: "White Project"

Ferrari Fashion School with Berto in collab for the White Project AA 24/25

Ferrari Fashion School is committed to building valuable collaborations with leading companies in the textile sector, offering students the opportunity to work on real projects that put their skills into practice and prepare them for the professional world. Through partnerships with innovative companies, we promote initiatives that allow students to interact with high-quality materials, learn about new technologies, and understand the importance of sustainability in fashion design.

These projects provide a valuable opportunity for young students to express their creativity and test their abilities on real briefs, with the support of qualified partners.

The academic project “WHITE PROJECT AA 24/25”, in collaboration with Berto, a historic company and leader in high-quality denim production, embodies this spirit. The project will involve the first-year BA in Fashion Design class, giving students the opportunity to develop and create a garment inspired by a focus on denim.

Students will engage in the entire creative process, working on concepts and designs that reflect both their vision and Berto’s values.

Who is Berto?

Berto produces high-quality denim fabrics for major Italian and international clothing brands. Founded in 1887 in Bovolenta (PD), the company is now run by the fourth generation of the Berto family. Production still takes place in its historic facilities and is an integral part of the Italian Textile-Fashion supply chain.

Berto is a true “contemporary artisan”: technical skill and craftsmanship combine with knowledge accumulated over time, resulting in innovative, high-quality, and sustainable products.

The Project in Collaboration with Berto

The White Project is a unique academic experience that invites students to explore the creative potential of denim, focusing exclusively on natural shades such as white and ecru. This essential color choice encourages designers to concentrate on form, texture, volume, and fabric manipulation, challenging them to create garments where structure and materiality are the absolute protagonists.

The project, aimed at the first-year BA in Fashion Design class, is based on a selection of denims provided by Berto, made from 100% cotton and sourced from stock remnants or recycled fabrics. Students will be involved in every stage of the creative process: from selecting materials to developing concepts, and finally creating a garment inspired by the Women’s SS 26 collection.

Project Details

The project focuses on denim as the primary material, with a selection provided by Berto that includes 2–3 types of fabric, such as lightweight shirt denim, laminated denim, and other variations, all characterized by a natural color palette ranging from white to ecru. Attention to sustainability is central to the project, using recycled or defective fabrics, raising student awareness of responsible design.

Students will participate in various operational stages, starting from denim selection and ordering the yardage required to make a garment inspired by the Women’s SS 26 collection. Throughout the process, they will develop creative concepts, exploring volumes, textile manipulations, and combinations of different types of denim. The final result will be presented to the company for a comprehensive evaluation.
