Course
Structure

The course provides an introduction to CLO3D, the leading software for 3D fashion simulation. Participants will learn digital garment design, from creating virtual patterns to simulating garments on 3D avatars, through to realistic visualisation of the final piece. The programme is designed for those who wish to approach digital fashion design without prior experience.

Teaching methodology: lessons include guided exercises, live demonstrations, individual work, and personalised feedback. The focus is on practical learning with continuous support from the tutor.

At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance is issued (with a minimum of 8 out of 10 lessons attended), valid for the recognition of 2 CFA credits.

Basic Course

  • Lesson 1 – Introduction to 3D Fashion Design
  • Lesson 2 – Basic 2D Pattern-Making Tools
  • Lesson 3 – Creating Digital Patterns
  • Lesson 4 – Virtual Sewing and Avatar Simulation
  • Lesson 5 – Basic Digital Garment Construction
  • Lesson 6 – Materials and Fabric Simulation
  • Lesson 7 – Basic Texturing and Rendering
  • Lesson 8 – Accessories and Tailoring Details
  • Lesson 9 – Creating Basic Poses and Animations
  • Lesson 10 – Final Project Presentation

Final feedback and discussion

  • Understand the fundamentals of 3D fashion design and the role of digital simulation in the creative process
  • Become familiar with the CLO3D interface and its main toolsDevelop simple digital patterns and create garment simulations on avatars
  • Apply materials, textures, and tailoring details to enhance garment realism
  • Create basic poses and animations for project presentation
  • Produce an initial digital output suitable for a portfolio or professional presentation

To attend the Basic Course, participants are required to bring a personal laptop, preferably with a mouse, in order to work smoothly during in-class exercises. A basic knowledge of pattern making is also required, as it is essential to properly understand the technical foundations covered throughout the programme.

Advanced Course

  • Lesson 1 – Custom Avatar Creation
  • Lesson 2 – Customisation of Physical Material Properties
  • Lesson 3 – Advanced 2D Pattern Construction
  • Lesson 4 – Advanced Digital Draping
  • Lesson 5 – Pleat and Fold Management
  • Lesson 6 – Particle Distance (Mesh) Adjustment
  • Lesson 7 – Padding and Volumetric Structures
  • Lesson 8 – 3D Pen Tool Application
  • Lesson 9 – Knots, Bows and Complex Details
  • Lesson 10 – Final Project: Technical Review and Presentation
  • Develop complex tailored garments in a digital environment
  • Understand and control the physical simulation of materials
  • Integrate 2D pattern making with advanced digital draping techniques
  • Optimise mesh quality and particle distance to achieve professional results

To attend the Advanced Course, participants are required to bring a personal laptop, preferably with a mouse, to ensure precision and autonomy during practical exercises. A basic knowledge of CLO3D, along with fundamental skills in pattern making and digital fashion design, is also required in order to successfully follow the programme with an appropriate level of preparation.

FAQ

The course takes place at the Ferrari Fashion School, Via Savona 97 and Via Pestalozzi 4, Milano, within fully equipped laboratories designed for digital pattern making and CLO3D-based workflows.

The course is aimed at students, professionals, fashion enthusiasts, and anyone wishing to approach digital fashion design, even without prior experience in pattern making or 3D software.

Participants learn how to create and modify digital patterns, simulate fabrics and garment volumes on avatars, apply tailoring details, produce realistic renderings, and develop personal projects for their portfolio.

Upon completion, participants will be able to add advanced digital fashion design skills to their portfolio, useful for roles such as digital pattern maker, 3D fashion designer, virtual prototyper, or freelance professional within the fashion industry in Milan.
