4Waves® x Ferrari Fashion School: Soft Boundaries, la moda incontra i watersports e la cultura urbana

An innovative collaboration between Ferrari Fashion School and 4Waves® brings together watersports culture and fashion to explore wavesomeness: a new vision of contemporary urban lifestyle.

What happens when the freedom of watersports meets the creativity of fashion design?

The answer is Soft Boundaries, the first fashion capsule collection developed by 4Waves® in collaboration with Ferrari Fashion School, bringing together emerging designers, industry professionals and leading Italian textile companies.

Conceived as a seasonless, modular wardrobe that bridges dynamic wear and contemporary culture, the collection challenges conventional distinctions between sportswear, technical clothing and everyday fashion.

More than a collection, Soft Boundaries is an exploration of movement, adaptability and the increasingly fluid relationship between what we wear and how we live.

4Waves®: From Watersports Innovation to Fashion Design

Founded by Oliver Zuegel, 4Waves® is a creative laboratory dedicated to the world of watersports, with innovation, modularity and sustainability at the heart of its philosophy.

Its vision extends beyond performance and functionality, embracing a broader lifestyle inspired by the freedom, energy and transformative power of water.

Central to the brand’s identity is the concept of Wavesomeness, a philosophy built around intelligence, responsibility, confidence and endurance.

With Soft Boundaries, 4Waves® takes this philosophy into the world of fashion, translating its values into garments designed to move naturally between different environments, activities and moments of everyday life.

The result is a wardrobe that combines technical research, contemporary aesthetics and a modular approach to design, exploring the intersection of fashion, watersports and urban culture.

Soft Boundaries: A Modular, Seasonless Fashion Collection

Developed in collaboration with Ferrari Fashion School, Soft Boundaries investigates how the principles of technical apparel can inform a new approach to contemporary fashion.

The capsule was conceived as a gender-inclusive wardrobe, with the design process beginning from womenswear before expanding into a broader dialogue between women’s and men’s clothing.

This first collection features five key elements:

  • Two outerwear pieces, exploring volume, protection and adaptability.
  • Two outfits in quilted cotton piqué, combining tactile surfaces, structure and comfort.
  • One hybrid soft accessory, positioned between a belt bag and a functional tool holder.

The collection’s identity emerges from the dialogue between technical functionality and visual experimentation, with particular attention to materials, construction and versatility.

Soft Boundaries brings sportswear and urban fashion together through a coherent design language. Its name reflects this approach: boundaries become softer, categories overlap, and clothing adapts to the people and environments around it.

Italian Textile Excellence: Silkomo, Thermore and Gruppo Cinque

Material innovation plays a central role in the development of Soft Boundaries.

The project brought together three companies representing different areas of Italian textile expertise, each contributing specialised materials to the collection.

Silkomo provided the distinctive moiré fabrics used for the outerwear, introducing a sophisticated visual texture that contrasts with the collection’s technical inspiration.

Thermore contributed its expertise in thermal insulation, supplying the padding used in the garments.

Gruppo Cinque supported the project with technical fabrics, reinforcing the connection between performance-driven materials and contemporary fashion design.

The collaboration highlights the importance of connecting emerging creative talent with the expertise of established textile manufacturers.

It also reflects Ferrari Fashion School’s educational philosophy: creativity grows through experimentation, but finds new possibilities when it encounters the knowledge, materials and manufacturing culture of the fashion industry.

From Academic Training to Professional Collaboration: The Ferrari Fashion School Team

At the heart of the project is a multidisciplinary team bringing together Ferrari Fashion School fresh graduates, lecturers and current students.

The collection was developed under the creative supervision of Lika Kubaneishvili, lecturer at Ferrari Fashion School, with three graduates of the school’s undergraduate Fashion Design programme:

Jessica Molino, Sara Maria Narzisi and Melania Pirotta.

The three emerging designers contributed to the creative development of the collection, translating the 4Waves® philosophy into a contemporary fashion language.

The prototyping phase was supported by Martino Fois and Marilù Liuzzi, Ferrari Fashion School lecturers, whose technical expertise helped connect design concepts with garment construction and material experimentation.

The project represents a tangible example of the school’s commitment to creating opportunities for graduates to continue developing their professional experience beyond the classroom.

By involving alumnae in a real fashion industry collaboration, Ferrari Fashion School encourages the transition from academic experimentation to professional practice.

The Lookbook: Fashion Photography, Art Direction and Creative Collaboration

The visual identity of Soft Boundaries was developed through another collaborative process involving Ferrari Fashion School’s Fashion Styling and Visual Communication community.

The lookbook was created under the art direction of Riccardo Carrapa, lecturer and Course Leader in the school’s Visual Communication area.

Photography was entrusted to Chiara Savini, alumna of the Master in Fashion Photography and Film, while Jennifer Garau, a student of the undergraduate Fashion Styling and Communication programme, contributed as Assistant Stylist.

The project also featured two exceptional models:

Johanna Person, founder of Aura Studio, and Carlo Varraso.

Together, the creative team developed a visual narrative that reflects the collection’s hybrid identity, balancing contemporary fashion imagery with the spirit of movement and experimentation that defines 4Waves®.

The lookbook demonstrates how fashion design, styling, photography and art direction can work together to build a coherent brand identity, while providing students and graduates with opportunities to collaborate on professional creative productions.

Soft Boundaries at Fashion Graduate Italia 2026: An Interactive Fashion Experience

The Soft Boundaries collection made its public debut during Fashion Graduate Italia 2026 in Milan, an event dedicated to emerging fashion talent and the dialogue between education and the fashion industry.

Ferrari Fashion School and 4Waves® created an interactive photobooth experience designed to engage visitors directly. In fact, guests were invited to try on the garments, experiment with the collection’s different pieces and have their photograph taken alongside the signature 4Waves® surfboard.

The installation reflected the collection’s central philosophy: fashion is something to experience, interpret and make one’s own. By inviting visitors to interact with the garments, the presentation truly brought the concept of Wavesomeness to life, connecting the collection to individual expression.

Fashion Education Beyond the Classroom

The collaboration between Ferrari Fashion School and 4Waves® illustrates the value of bringing together fashion education, creative entrepreneurship and industry expertise.

From concept development and material research to prototyping, art direction and public presentation, Soft Boundaries involved multiple disciplines and generations of creative professionals.

For Ferrari Fashion School, projects like this are an essential part of an educational approach that encourages students and graduates to experiment, challenge established categories and engage directly with the realities of the fashion industry.

For 4Waves®, the collaboration represents an opportunity to extend its creative philosophy into a new field, exploring how the principles of watersports innovation can inspire a distinctive approach to contemporary fashion.

Soft Boundaries is ultimately a story about connections: between fashion and performance, creativity and craftsmanship, education and industry.
