Course Structure

Course Features

The Master of Arts in Fashion Design and Creative Direction is an advanced postgraduate program validated by Teesside University (UK), designed to train designers to critically engage with the complexity of the contemporary fashion system. The program integrates design practice, research, and critical thinking. It provides tools to understand and interpret the economic, geopolitical, social, cultural, and environmental changes reshaping fashion today.

Through a strongly practical and project-based approach, students develop original collections while evolving their creative identity and building a solid, recognizable authorial vision. At the same time, they acquire advanced technical and technological skills in materials, textiles, and production processes, integrating principles of eco-design and circular design.

The program is enriched by Advanced Practice activities, including internships, collaborations with companies, and participation in competitive contexts, allowing students to test their skills in real-world scenarios.

Study Plan

The Master of Arts in Fashion Design and Creative Direction is structured over two years, following a progressive pathway that combines research, experimentation, and design development.

In the first year, students build the foundations of their creative journey by working across four main areas: research and development, materials and tailoring techniques, collection design (including collaborations with Made in Italy brands), and visual communication. Through hands-on and experimental activities such as textile manipulation, dyeing techniques, upcycling, and prototype development, students acquire both technical and methodological skills.

Critical thinking sessions run throughout the year, supporting students in developing a conscious design perspective and an independent creative position through the creation of a personal manifesto. The first year concludes with an international study trip designed to broaden perspectives and engage with global creative and production contexts.

In the second year, the focus shifts toward advanced application and the definition of a personal authorial vision. An initial phase of Advanced Practice allows students to engage with real professional experiences, supported by a Career Advisor. This includes internships, company collaborations, or study periods abroad.

The program culminates in the Major Project, where each student develops a complete fashion collection, from initial research to final realization. This includes prototyping, fitting, lookbook/editorial production, and a critical dissertation.
